Types of Plait

French Plait

A french plait is a very basic twist on a normal plait. It has been used for years and is created as a style to keep hair tightly fixed to the head. There can be different ways of producing a french plait, such as down the middle of the head, either side of the head or to be more experimental and creative, twisted around the head. Here are some images of my basic french plait. I started the plait from the top of the head and then moved it around the side to the back.

Fishtail Plait

Fishtail plaits have recently become much more popular in the hair industry. Again, it is another twist on a plait, but this is created much differently. The hair is split into two sections, and then taking a section from one side you take it over to the other to join the other section. You repeate this technique, keeping the hair held tightly together to produce a fishtail plait.
